Nomad Travel Magazine Brand Guidlines and Spreads

Overview

Nomad Magazine is a conceptual publication dedicated to promoting responsible travel, cultural preservation, and global awareness. In my advanced typography class, I designed an 88-page magazine featuring editorial content, photo spreads, and ads. The goal was to master typesetting and layout design while creating a cohesive publication with a consistent typographic system that harmonized the content and design.

Moodboard

For this project, I aimed to capture a feeling of exploration and adventure while making the magazine feel knowledgeable and informative. I drew inspiration from magazines like National Geographic and Time, focusing on their imagery to convey a sense of discovery.

Brand Guidelines

When creating the brand guidelines, I focused on designing a brand that was both sophisticated and playful. I made the logo more playful while using sophisticated typefaces and darker colors to maintain versatility.

Sketches

Cover Design

For the cover design, I aimed to capture a sense of adventure, moving away from the luxury resort imagery often seen in travel magazines. I focused on highlighting the main article on Bangkok, Thailand.

Spreads

I really enjoyed designing each spread for this magazine. I focused on creating layouts that highlighted both short and long articles, experimenting with different imagery and design elements. My goal was to ensure each article maintained visual separation while also preserving continuity across the pages.

Advertisments

I focused on integrating the advertisements into the magazine, ensuring they were relevant to the content. I aimed to create designs that were engaging and complemented the overall design, while also maintaining their own visual identity..
